Ukrainian digital artist Kat Mozgin is coming to Bodrum Art Fair with her NFT project called “Welfaro”. We talked to Kat Mozgin about her project, which deals with humanity’s war against global warming, and her approach to digital art. The artist said that she likes to dive deep into human psychology in her works, to explore dreams and journeys to the subconscious, and dealing with the ecology-human relationship.
Firstly, can you talk about us yourself and your artworks?
I am doing art production in the name of Kat Mozgin. I am examining environment, human psychology, and the transformation of human themes in my works. Means that I used in art production are diversifying according to subject. Its technic might be 3D animation, artistic photography, collage art, movement design, video art, etc. according to subject that I am dealing with. I get inspired from surreal components in my artworks. I am working about subjects that focusing dreams and subconciousness. My video art product that docusing this themes “The Door to Your Soul” was nominated to New York Movie Festival in 2020, however the festival could not happened because of Covid-19 pandemic. I dedicated this product to dealing fears and pains theme, was focusing the borders that imposing by society, parents, and every kind of authority. Now I am working with new NFT project about dream theme. The project is called “Wandering Soul”. I chose to used much simple forms and animations in this project. When the world passes to digital dimension, I am feeling to include this impetus. Nowon NFT is playing enourmous role in the art world, I care about NFT either for opening applying area to my art, or offers incredible opportunities to communication with global audience. My primary goal about future is creating my own digital art studio.
When did you choose to produce works about digital art? What was your reasons of choosing digital art?
Actually when I started to taking education about digital art, this area was unkown and unpopular. When I had moved to New York in 2019, digital art had became attracting interests, I decided strengthening education, learning much more about AR/VR technologies. Because for me world’s trend is in this way, we will talk about much more about robots, computer technologies, and visual world. Art will follow the life naturally. I personally believe digital art gives much freedom and creativity opportunity to artist.
You have stated “My personal experiences are shaping the nature of my works.” What are the ideas that lies behind your products? Spesifically we know you are interesting about nature problems…
According to my idea, all environment crisis, primarily climate crisis, are one of the most important problems of humanity. Destroying forests, air pollution, water conflicts that waiting us in the future… We shall aware of these are serious threats for our world. Everything that we are breathing is us, our health and how many days we are living are depends our ecology. Besides of ecological issues, I am intending to diving to human pschology’s deeps, examining subconciousness and dreams.
You shared your NFT project that called “Welfaro” in your OpenSea account. Can you inform us about the content of this project? What is the meaning of Welfaro?
“Welfaro” is inspired by English Welfare word which means wealthy. I am interpreting the transformation of human race, if global warming will continue as like this. I had been designed human-dolphing mixed creature when I am thinking about this transformation. Dolphins are unique creatures. They are clever, beatiful but at the same time they are sinfull and dangerous as like humans. I want to show humans how much can go far away in their sins, if they are still thinking about themselves but not nature. Our world will sink into darkness if we will not change our attitudes about nature. The global warming will cause to all continents are destroyed. The dolphin-human calls all humans thinking, stop and helping to nature for rescuing this beatiful world which gives us.
Does NFT may become the future of art for you? And do you agree that NFT is more preferable for digital artists rather than traditional artists?
I found opportunity to show my “Welfaro” project in Ukraine pavion, that formed in 15 metre areas and 4 metre height screen last year. I found opportunity to experience AR technologhy in European Digital Art Festival on May 2022. I am thinking NFT is new leap in art. Our most loved art products can be near of us always without paying too much prices with the help of these this kind of technologies. As I said, the future of art is in AR/VR technologies, metaverse, and NFT. But however traditional art will continue always. Therefore, as I believe digital art is mixed with new technologies, traditional art will always be.
You are attending to the Bodrum Art Fair that will start on 29, June. Which products will you offer to Turkish art lovers?
I will attend to Bodrum Art Fair with my NFT project Welfaro. As I said, Welfaro is a video art project about the human-dolphin production transforming of human race if the ecological devastation will not stop.
Are there any Turkish digital artists you like?
Of course, there are many names, Refik Anadol is one of them primarily. I want to say Anadol is one of my idols. His works are inspiring foundation for me. As I say sincerely, Refik Anadol is now one of the best digital artist of world.
Lastly, all of us are sad and worried about the continuing cruel war in Ukraine. Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine. You had been stated that incomes of your NFT projects that are coming from Dubai Fair will be donated to the Ukraine people. We want to hear the details of this effort…
