Egypt, where the Cheops pyramid, one of the seven wonders of the world, is located, was visited by 14.9 million tourists last year.

According to the information compiled by AA reporters, the pyramids of Cheops, Khafre and Mycerinus, which are the largest of approximately 160 pyramids in Egypt, were built as cemeteries for the kings who lived during the 4th Pharaonic Dynasty (3494 BC – 2613 BC). The pyramids, named after the kings of the period, are located in the city of Giza, southwest of the capital Cairo, as the tombs of the father, son and grandson, the largest being Keops (King Khufu), the middle pyramid Khafre (King Khafre) and the small pyramid Mikerinos (King Mnkaure).

Cheops, which retained the title of the tallest building in the world for approximately 4 thousand years until the Eiffel Tower was built, was 230 meters wide and 146.4 meters long, but it became shorter by approximately 10 meters due to erosion over time. Cheops is considered to be the largest and oldest of the pyramids in Egypt. Cheops, among the Seven Wonders of the World, is the only structure among these works that has survived to the present day.
