“The Golden Apple”, one of the most prestigious tourism awards of the world, is given to Konya this year.
In 2016, the administrators of the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers (FIJET) came to Konya for the Şeb-i Arus ceremonies and they were fascinated by the city. After the visit, delegation stated that they would work for Konya to achieve the Golden Apple award, which described as “Tourism Oscar”. It was decided that the award will be given to Konya with the big support of some initiatives of NGOs such as FIJET Turkey and TURSAB.
FIJET WORLD PRESIDENT VISITED KONYA
The day we passed before the decision to give the Golden Apple award to Konya, FIJET World President Tijani Haddad came to Istanbul where he was met by FIJET Turkey President Delal Atamdede and Vice President Nilgün Şirin. The delegation that went to Konya together and being informed by the Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Abdüssettar Yarar in Konya Governorship. Afterwards, it was announced that the award will be given to Mevlana’s field Konya. Through the decision-making process, TURSAB Konya Regional Executive Committee Chairman Kazım Yanar made great efforts.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN APPLE AWARD
“The Golden Apple” is the FIJET equivalent of the Oscar. This award for excellence is presented each year to an organization, country, city or person in recognition of superior efforts in promoting and raising the level of tourism. Since it was established in 1970, The FIJET Golden Apple Award has been presented to 43 recipients.
